Scene of the Crime 2015 Audition form
The Hideout Mainstage show for May and June of 2015 will be Scene of the Crime: An Improvised Murder Mystery, directed by Troy Miller.

Description:
---
An isolated countryside estate.
A historic hotel in the Alps.
A passenger train bound for Istanbul.

These are just a few of the possible locations for an eclectic group of individuals to find themselves together… and for one of them to be murdered!

Scene of the Crime takes its cue from classic whodunits crafted by the likes of Agatha Christie, wherein a murder is committed at the outset of our story, and everyone is a suspect. An intrepid detective, either by design or circumstance, is called in to investigate. Along the way, evidence is found, secrets are revealed, twists and reversals abound until the murderer is unmasked, and justice is served… or not…

The great fun and challenge of this show is two-fold: creating an array of rich characters who at any moment could come off as the killer (each with motive), and maintaining mystery and intrigue throughout: the cast itself will not know who the killer is until our “detective” reveals it at the end.

Auditions will be Sunday, February 22nd, between noon and 6pm. Audition slots will be one hour long. No preparation is needed.

In the event of a callback, please also be able to be free on Wednesday, February 25th, from 6:30 to 8:00pm. Callbacks are tentative; if we deem them necessary, you will be informed on Monday, February 23rd. In either event, casting decisions will be finalized by Thursday, February 24th and an email will go out to everyone who auditioned.

If you are interested in auditioning, you must understand and be okay with the following:

We will cast 12-14 people, and each show will likely feature a cast of 8-9.
Shows will be on Saturdays at 8pm in May and June.
That is, at the moment, a total of 9 shows, and everyone will be guaranteed to play in at least 6 of those 9 shows.

Rehearsals will be on Wednesdays from 7-10pm in March and April, and possibly continuing through the run from 6:30 to 8pm.

Everyone is busy, we’re getting close to summer, and no one gets paid for playing in these shows. So, you get one freebie conflict for both the Wednesday rehearsals and Saturday shows.

Yes, you will likely have 2-3 Saturdays off, but at this moment in time you need to be ABLE to play in all but one show, so we can create a meaningful schedule. If, for instance, you already know you’re going to be out of town for two weeks, I’m not saying that you won’t get cast or shouldn’t audition, but know that may be a factor. And above all, please be honest about your time when you fill out the audition form.

We look forward to seeing you on the 22nd!

Thanks,
Troy
